The reason I’m a filmmaker is because there is something about storytelling that continues to fascinate me - the opportunity to create a story and have it affect people in a deep way. As I’ve grown and changed, it has pulled me more and more by necessity, and now it has become the natural expression of my reflections and feelings (the natural state of things…)

I really enjoy creating and shaping the atmosphere for people’s escapes, whether that is through watching short films or a hype video for a concert or community art exhibition…what interests me the most is creating these escapes for people, the opportunity to enter another world.

Personal Work

I am currently in the post-production stage for my film, “Direction of Sunlight!!” You can read more about the film and support here:

I am also in the process of continuing my summer research project entitled “To Be Queer and Black in the 70s", which focuses on audiovisual materials by and about black queer activists in the 70s and pairs them with original disco music.

About Me

Work Experience

I do event videography and video editing work for two clubs at Northwestern - Black Poetry Society and A&O. In addition, I work at the film equipment center, distributing equipment to over 300 undergraduate and graduate film students.

In the past, I have worked as a programming intern for Imagine This Women’s International Film Festival.

I am currently interning at Truth & Documentary in Chicago.

I'm Satarie, a senior at Northwestern from Tampa, FL studying Radio/TV/Film, Cognitive Science, and Sound Design.

I am interested in directing, cinematography, editing, and sound design, and have been involved in many student film sets at Northwestern. Recently, my work has expanded beyond film to include museum sound design installation projects and DJ sets. As my college career comes to a close, I am excited to further explore my interest in audiovisual projects and collaborate with other artists.
